This exhibition by the Swiss-based Fluxum Foundation and the Flux Laboratory presents Nikos Vavdinoudis’s Bell Bearers photo series. In early January, in the small villages of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, in northern Greece, the earth begins to quake to the sound of bells and other strange rituals. The inhabitants of these villages, adorned in masks and animal skins with bells strapped to them, practice these ancestral rites each year to chase away evil spirits and welcome the beginning of a good and fertile year. Nikos Vavdinoudis is a photographer from Thessaloniki. His work focuses on portraits and architectural and culinary photography. He has worked with Dimitris Athyridis and, since 1999, he has managed the vd studio with his partner Christos Dimitriou.
