The Municipality of Agios Nikolaos in Crete marks the beginning of this year’s tourist season with an environmental message. In collaboration with NGO ECOWEEK, the G & A Mamidakis Foundation and group bluegr Hotels & Resorts, the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos hosts a week of sustainable design, green building and envisioning for ecological interventions and proposals for the city.
From 3/7 to 10/7 the city of Agios Nikolaos will host the international conference and sustainable design workshops of ECOWEEK with the participation of experts from Greece and abroad – Canada, England, Israel, Turkey and Italy. The aim of the workshops is to develop new ideas for the revitalization of parts of the city, for example, the waterfront – with new proposals for pedestrians and an aesthetic uplift, schoolyards – with shade and green, and suggestions for bicycle and pedestrian paths in the green open areas in the city. The workshops also include light construction using ecological and reclaimed materials with the participation of expert groups based in Crete.
The events include ecological film screenings, presentations and exhibition of sustainable design proposals, visits to ecological buildings, beach cleaning and more.
