On 23 March 2016 PIASA will showcase Greek modern and contemporary sculpture in parallel with Greek Design. The sale’s sixty works reflect the transposition of artistic practice into daily life – revealing the close relationship between artists and objects. The themed sales for which PIASA are famous offer an overlapping approach to a variety of fields – regularly connecting Design, Decorative Art, Modern/ Contemporary Art and Photography. ‘I felt it was important to highlight the specific creative approach of Artists’ Furniture – which, thanks to its limited production, is desirable and highly sought-after’ explains Laura Wilmotte- Koufopandelis, PIASA head of sales for Greek Modern & Contemporary Art. Artists sometimes apply their creativity and ingenuity to how they live by designing practical objects for everyday life. These items are close to them and sometimes even resemble them – reflecting their mind, culture and view of the world, as artists reappropriate reality. Works to be offered include furniture by Takis, Yannis Gaïtis, Pavlos and Philolaos and – among more contemporary artists – Vana Xenou and Alexandra Athanassiades.
