The exhibition “Recording and Promotion of the 19th and 20th century’s buildings in Athens” presents the outcomes of a two-year project which recorded more that 10,000 buildings in Athens, collecting testimonies and old photographs that demonstrate the history and development of the city, as well as the significance of the complete and systematic record in order to protect our architectural heritage.
Based on the exclusive donation of the foundation “STAVROS NIARCHOS”, the main objectives of this program were to research and to record all the buildings of the period 1830-1940, as well as to integrate architecture in the daily life of residents and visitors of the city through many activities and events (trainings, workshops, tours, cycling, website, brochures, etc.) and by encouraging them to actively participate in the recording itself.
The program required the coordination of a team of archaeologists and architects specialized in the management and protection of monuments, along with a large number of volunteers.
