Thanos Klonaris creates architectural utopias of elaborate design, which function as references to a form of post-modern archaeology, as well as primitive settlements. His work investigates the inhabitable – livable space as an anthropological factor in which the notion of hearth (hestia) has a central role. His iconographic references to existing, real buildings re-examine the role of architectural design as an interpretative paradigm of contemporary visual art production. He investigates the medium of drawing using traditional materials such as pencil, ink, and charcoal, but also incorporates digital technology. In this way, he composes a new form of collage that consists of photography and linear architectural drawings. For the artist, this is the starting point from which to create hybrid places where real and imaginary elements co-exist harmonically.
