Having superseded the false dilemma between representation and abstraction, and painting at the exact opposite end to the current pictorial nihilism, Stefanos Rokos creates one of the most vital incarnations of the contemporary one could wish for at this day and age. Born in Athens in 1977, from 1995 to 2000 he studied Painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts under T. Patraskidis. He also attended printmaking courses at the studio of G. Milios. In 2002 he completed his post-graduate studies in printmaking at the Wimbledon School of Art, London, with a scholarship from the Propontis Foundation. From 2005 to 2007 he was supported by a state scholarship for his artistic work. He has had solo and group shows in Greece and abroad. He has been working with Agathi Gallery since 2001, which he represented for four years at International Art fair Art Athina with solo shows. In 2010 he presented a musical/artistic project “Horror & Romance on Another Planet”, which included a compilation cd in a numbered edition of 1700 copies with 18 original tracks by Greek and foreign musicians inspired by his exhibition of the same title (www.horrorandromance.com). He has designed the cd covers for artists Foivos Delivorias, Pavlos Pavlidis, Piney Gir, Bobby Conn, Krista Muir, Interstellar Overdrive, Sigmatropic and Christos Leontis. He has also designed book covers and posters for theatre and film.
