BlahBlahBlah is a project curated by Vassilis Zidianakis and inspired by Atopos’ research for its new book titled UNLOCKED. As part of the UNLOCKED exhibition and in the context of his participation in the new publication, artist Greg Haji Joannides presents the process of creating his new work in the form of a performance. Locked in an Atopos room for hours Haji Joannides will record the first part of this new work using his special technique. Visitors will be able to watch the
process live on the workshop monitor being set up right next to this room.
Light And Sound Reaction is inspired by his very first project Light reaction that the artist created in 2010 and presented in Lille3000, France (2012) and Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2014). The project consists of 12 large photos of high exposure printed in a glossy paper, where the themes seem to appear and disappear in a white environment showing the end or the begging of the human coexistence. As an extension of this, the new work Light And Sound Reaction will be motion pictures and videos showing the coexistence of two former lovers, set apart for a long time, in a room for hours. The videos will record body expressions, moves, feelings and emotions, in combination with a dark room sound installation capturing the former lovers’ tenderness deprived of images or light.
Greg Haji Joannides has developed his own personal technique, photoshooting in high exposure, while playing with the camera settings in order to reach the desired outcome during the shooting process. This way he avoids using programs like photoshop, keeping himself away from any artificial means or distractions. The artist works for the first time with video and sound installation as he is intrigued by the separate usage of the two functions of his camera.
