Manousos Chalkiadakis
Manousos Chalkiadakis is one of Greece’s most established ceramic artists, with a career spanning several decades. He lives and works in Paidochori, Apokoronas, on the island of Crete, in a remarkable setting that forms an integral part of his creative world. His practice combines traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary sculptural language, and he is particularly known for his large-scale ceramic works. Chalkiadakis draws inspiration from the natural environment and cultural landscape of Crete. Organic forms and familiar elements of nature are transformed through unexpected changes of scale and proportion. Over the course of his long artistic career, his work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Greece and internationally, as well as by galleries and cultural institutions.
