Private residence in Evia island by Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects

The house is located deep in Saint Dimitrios bay in Evia, Greece, densely surrounded by centenarian olive trees reaching the edge of the Aegean sea. The landscape and the sense of serenity were the driving design parameters. The house overlooks the peaceful sea waters. It comprises of two vertical two-storey volumes, four bedrooms, and a spanning roof structure housing the kitchen and living room. Made of exposed concrete, the house merges into the olive grove’s landscape becoming “invisible”. The living room allows for views both ways, front and back, while the bedroom enjoys sea views. The use of the natural light is also different in the living room and the bedroom. In the shared spaces there is a sense of outdoor living, while the bedrooms feel like a protected nest. The house acts like the mediating “choreographer” of the moving bodies, allowing them to enjoy the surrounding magic.
