Buna Tetu (meaning “Drink Coffee” in Amharic) is a conceptual coffee bar located in Petroupoli, a western Athenian suburb, away from the bustling city center. This brand-new store is an homage to the plethoric and awe-inspiring Ethiopian culture, focusing on one of its most prominent commodities – coffee. Buna Tetu’s architectural and design aesthetic serves as the visual vocabulary for a reinvented image of modern coffee drinking.
“Specialty coffee is the flavorful basis on which we’ve built a casual yet carefully curated environment of everyday pleasure and happy encounters. Wood, corten steel, soil bricks, marble, and burlap are some of the materials used for the construction of the box-shaped Buna Tetu. Our main purpose was to only employ unprocessed means for the store to acquire a sustainable, eco-friendly character. A custom-made, Africa-inspired wooden 3D mask by artist Spyros Drakos is the sole decorative item in the store, attesting to its consciously minimalist nature. A place of inspiration, an understated hip hangout. Buna Tetu is all about tasting beauty in tranquility.”
