Synthesis architectural office has found a home in a neoclassical building in Chania

Synthesis architectural office has given a 1928 neoclassical building in Chania a fresh identity. The challenge was to transform a modest 37m² space into a functional, stylish office. The building’s distinctive feature, a ground floor roof crafted with parallel steel beams forming elegant brick arches, -a technique known as kappendecke-, became a key focus and was carefully preserved. The office layout maximizes the ground floor’s height and distinctive shape, creating an open, collaborative workspace. A standout wooden bookcase structure organizes the central desk and workstations, with a flexible second office structure unfolding into a comfy seating area. Natural light floods the space through strategic facade openings, creating a bright, open atmosphere. The lighting design highlights the ceiling’s structure, with two levels -ambient and focused lighting- emphasizing the diverse elements of the space. The outcome is an office that honors its historical roots while addressing its modern needs.
