KARN Studio designs dual-natured café and bar in the heart of Kypseli, Athens

Athens-based practice KARN Studio has completed Diosa, an all-day café and bar in Agios Georgios Square, Kypseli. Set in one of the city’s most vibrant neighborhoods, the space is designed to shift in character from day to night, offering a layered, evolving experience. By day, natural light and soft, earthy tones define the interior, bringing out the raw textures of the materials and creating a calm, welcoming atmosphere. As evening sets in, lighting becomes deeper and more saturated, transforming the space into an intimate bar for drinks and social gatherings. This duality is central to the studio’s approach. The interior is anchored by two structural columns that frame a circular wall opening, a quiet but striking gesture that subtly guides movement and establishes rhythm. Reflective surfaces in mirrored and silver finishes are used throughout to interact with light, adding dynamic visual depth. A feature wall covered in gradient tiles introduces a sense of flow, working with the lighting and reflections to unify the space. On the exterior, iridescent vinyls and a custom logotype shift with the changing daylight, echoing the project’s playful and contemporary tone. Fluid and atmospheric, Diosa is designed to be rediscovered with every visit — a space in constant dialogue with light, time, and its surroundings.
