AP Design House creates tactile, community-focused interior for Homer Rogue Taverna in Sydney

Interior view of Homer Rogue Taverna in Sydney by AP Design House

Set on the edge of the beach in Sydney, Homer Rogue Taverna by AP Design House brings a hint of Athens’ rebellious spirit to a relaxed, social dining setting. Designed to host around 100 guests, the restaurant leans into contrast, pairing raw, honest materials with more polished finishes. The result is a space that feels both effortless and considered. Exposed concrete and blockwork form the foundation of the interior, giving it a rugged, almost unfinished character. These are balanced by stainless steel and terrazzo surfaces that catch the light and add a cleaner, sharper layer to the palette. The mix keeps the space grounded without feeling heavy, allowing it to sit comfortably between industrial and coastal. Mid-century furniture and lighting introduce warmth and familiarity. Their worn-in feel softens the harder materials and brings a sense of age and texture, as if the taverna has grown naturally over time. Rather than feeling overly styled, the space feels collected and lived in. At its centre is an open working bar, designed as the heart of the restaurant. Together with a custom wine fridge, it draws people in and encourages interaction, making the act of gathering part of the experience. The design is intentionally tactile and evolving — a backdrop that comes to life through the people who fill it, shaped day by day by the energy of the community around it.
