Saluti Da Stampalia Chora by designers Konstantinos Komineas and Ellie Symeon transforms a traditional family stone house in the heart of Chora, Astypalaia into three independent summer studios. The project combines the character of the island’s architecture with the comfort of contemporary living. The house had grown gradually over the years through a series of additions made to meet the family’s changing needs. Instead of erasing this history, the renovation embraces it. The original layout was preserved and changes to the exterior were kept deliberately subtle, allowing the building to remain in harmony with the surrounding village. Large openings frame views of the Aegean Sea and the Venetian Castle, while whitewashed walls, olive-green shutters and simple materials reflect the colors and textures of Astypalaia. Inside, restored stone walls are paired with clean, minimalist interventions that make the compact spaces feel practical and calm. Custom-made bathtubs add a sculptural quality to the interiors, introducing a contemporary touch. By combining careful restoration with gentle new additions, the project creates a peaceful summer retreat that feels both contemporary and rooted in the architectural traditions of Astypalaia.
