Devocion is a boutique coffee roaster with a flagship showroom café in Williamsburg Brooklyn that has expanded its presence with a new 40-seat 1,700 sq ft space in downtown Brooklyn.
At this new context, as well as with the future Devocion locations under development LOT office for architecture is defining the architectural aesthetic of the expanding brand with certain elements that give life to the unique cafe concept and its Colombian origin and appear each time in new formats with a contextual uniqueness depending on each of the location found conditions: presence of lush nature, improvised and informal seating moments, a connecting and gathering lounge, the coffee counter as a main pole and a diverse materiality palette of warm but raw elements.
Devocion sets itself apart from the growing coffee business by flying their single source beans from Bogota to the Williamsburg roasting facility weekly enabling the company’s coffee to go from “origin-to-roaster-to-cup” in as little as 10 days.
The new café space features 18 ft. floor to ceiling windows, which fill the space with the natural light needed for the indoor tropical garden featuring 35 different plant around a central elevated concrete seating platform.
The counterpoint marks a 26 ft long black-marble and dark wood bar that invites the visitor to roam around the central island. Inset banquet seating and custom designed furniture made by Colombian craftsmen melt the influences from South America with the vibrancy of Downtown Brooklyn. The garden’s aesthetic is complemented by typical Colombian handmade cement tile flooring and white brick lined walls; both an abstract reflection of a traditional Colombian finca (farm).
