Materiality, light and space converge in new Korydallos studio by Aphe Architecture Studio

Located in a 1970s apartment complex in the Korydallos neighborhood, this 60 m² studio was originally designed for professional use. Aphe Architecture Studio has reimagined the space to serve both living and working functions, offering a modern, urban approach to daily life. The layout is divided into two zones. Upon entering, the kitchen and bathroom are positioned together, with the kitchen island acting as both a functional and social space at the core of the studio. The living room and bedroom occupy the second zone, with a curved design that ensures a smooth flow throughout the space, creating an open and cohesive atmosphere. The bedroom is separated from the living area by a wall of glass bricks, which allows natural light to filter through while maintaining a sense of separation. A metal panel at the edge of the glass bricks offers flexibility, enabling the resident to control light and ventilation. This thoughtful use of materials helps create a dynamic interplay between light and shadow, adding depth and richness to the space. Exposed cement construction, combined with ambient lighting from metal tube spotlights, enhances the industrial feel of the studio. The design incorporates metal elements in the furniture mounts and clothing hangers, reinforcing the modern aesthetic. A deep blue door connecting the daily living spaces to the private room serves as a striking design feature that integrates seamlessly with the overall concept.
