In the heart of Athens’ Pagrati neighborhood, architects Ioanna Dimaki and Alkiviadis Avarkiotis have transformed a family apartment into a quiet yet expressive retreat. The renovation balances minimalism with moments of playful excess. Living spaces are pared back, with muted tones, clean lines, and classic design objects forming a calm backdrop for daily life. A Taccia lamp, an Eames table, and collected artworks suggest a home that grows with its occupants. Elsewhere, bursts of colour and texture break the calm. On the terraces, a perforated yellow stair climbs skyward, blue and red interventions define outdoor gathering spots, and mismatched furniture nods to the layered balconies of the Athenian skyline. The kitchen and bathrooms continue the theme with bold tones and patterned finishes, injecting a sense of surprise into functional spaces. This subtle interplay of restraint and exuberance -of patchwork and precision- reflects both the character of the city and the needs of a young family, making the home at once grounded and imaginative.
