A painting doesn’t always have to stay on the wall. At Dimitrios Masouras Studio, the new creative space in Athens’ Koukaki neighbourhood, art finds its way onto ceramics, textiles and everyday objects, bringing the colourful world of Dimitris Masouras into daily life. Part gallery, part shop and part working atelier, the Studio brings his different creative interests together under one roof. On the ground floor, original paintings sit alongside objects and designs without strict divisions, giving the space the relaxed feeling of stepping into the artist’s own home. Upstairs, his atelier offers a closer look at the making process and hosts painting classes, inviting others to take part. Designed entirely by the Studio team, the interior retains original architectural features from the 1960s, with colour, materials and carefully arranged works creating a setting that feels closely connected to the art itself. Masouras brings a varied creative background to the project, having studied graphic design, cinematography and fashion management in the UK, alongside training in costume design, scenography and performance art at the National Theatre. His paintings often return to familiar subjects such as sailors, flowers and the sea, using expressive lines and colour to explore memory, tenderness, identity and human connection. These recurring motifs now move beyond the canvas, finding new forms across the Studio’s collections. Guided by the idea of “Art, made to live with”, the space offers a more personal way to encounter his work, whether through a painting, an object to take home or an afternoon spent making something of your own.
The Studio welcomes visitors for its opening on Friday, 16 October, from 18:00 to 22:00, offering a first look at its new home in Koukaki.
