Eleftheria Tseliou gallery will be hosting David Sampethai and Antonakis’ exhibition ‘Two Johns’, from Thursday, May 28th and till September 30th 2015. It’s a collaborative project which focuses on ‘Two Johns’, a movie that has not been filmed, yet it comes into existence through the continuous exchange of notes between the two artists. The core of this common exhibition constitutes in the exchange of studies for set designs, drawings of character portraits, photographs that capture the locations and the venues where the movie scenes were hypothetically shot, singled out descriptions of the preparatory process for what comes to be an unfinished plot.
Drawing inspiration from the protagonists in ‘Two Johns’ – who happen to be based on real people – the two artists focus on presenting us with two – if not more – alternatives of the movie characters and their stories, following the rule that says that every myth can come with endless variations. Simultaneously, Sampethai in collaboration with fellow musicians Irene Lyssari and Niko Vezani ( Benjha ) has composed the soundtrack for ‘Two Johns’ based on the classical TV series ‘TwinPeaks’, often adding original music scores to the texts and the poems that are part of the artwork.
