On the busy pedestrian street of Ermou in central Volos, Blanc Studio has reimagined a corner building as El mío Abnormal Bar, a venue defined by bold material juxtapositions, playful geometry and a dash of theatricality. The oak-framed polygonal entrance sets the tone, pulling visitors into a 120-square-metre interior where a linear inox bar runs the length of the main room. The bar culminates in a striking oak-and-marble base, designed for preparing meze, while an unconventional split table—half glass, half wood—anchors the space with sculptural character. A blush-pink booth lined with vinyl records rounds out the mix. Hidden behind the main area lies a speakeasy, reached through a refrigerated chamber that doubles as storage for tap cocktails and small-batch wines. A discreet low window beneath custom cocktail taps connects the two rooms, creating a playful moment of surprise as drinks appear directly in the hands of speakeasy guests. Blanc Studio’s material palette merges marble, wood, inox and glass, accented with exposed lighting and switches that lean into an industrial aesthetic. Splashes of deep green, vivid yellow and hot pink, together with metallic wire curtains, heighten the bar’s theatrical atmosphere. The design extends outside, with seating both on the pedestrian street and in a courtyard at the rear—spaces that integrate the venue seamlessly into the city fabric.
