Georgina Andrei’s latest project reimagines a historic Venetian structure with a refined modern vocabulary. Through careful preservation and thoughtful spatial interventions, the building’s limited footprint is transformed into a functional, layered space that feels both contemporary and timeless. The three-level residence, spanning just 24 sq m, retains its original Venetian shell and later structural additions, including a striking iron revolving staircase. Externally, the historic character has been maintained, with new wooden frames crafted in soft olive tones to echo the original detailing. Inside, the design emphasizes fluidity and space-saving precision. The kitchen and living areas are conceived as fixed, sculptural elements coated in cement mortar, creating a seamless visual flow. The ground floor is finished in the same material, its surface inlaid with sunken green glass mosaics that subtly guide the path upward. Two compact bedrooms and bathrooms occupy the upper levels, divided by wooden partitions framed with transparent plexiglass panels. These elements balance privacy with an airy sense of openness, enhancing the vertical connection between floors. The project’s guiding principle was to make every centimeter count while allowing the building’s historical atmosphere to resonate.
