Anestis Michalis: “Even the smallest object can shape a space’s whole identity”

Anestis Michalis is a freelance interior stylist based in Athens. Interior architecture studies and after that working in the design industry has always been his true desire. He started working as an interior stylist and he was soon appointed Director of Elle Decoration magazine (GR).

From 2006 onwards he has collaborated with photographers and studios on interior and concept styling projects as well as offering style consultancy for top architecture practices and property development companies.

As he mentions:

“We always use local materials and elements in our work, in order to create unique feelings and positive vibes on a styling picture or an interior project.

Objects matter, not only because they bring form and texture to a space, but also for their ability to engage us in the ‘conversation’. The smallest object or furniture embodies an entire relationship that is able to create a unique experience. As they are tied integrally to memories, they can actually shape the whole identity of the space.

When I style a space for a photo-shooting, I always try to search the owner’s existing pieces and add some new ones, to retain a laid-back authenticity that never lacks functionality or feels misplaced – as existing pieces always mean something to the person who lives in.”
