On the fifth floor of a 1960s apartment block in Kypseli, OA-STUDIO reimagines a 150 m² residence with care and precision. Rather than a sweeping transformation, the studio opts for a fragmented, reversible approach—introducing new uses through subtle, small-scale interventions while preserving the apartment’s original structure. Acquired just before Athens’ real estate surge, the apartment offered its new owners generous space but limited means. Their brief called for an extra multipurpose room, a writing nook and library, and a kitchen that could serve as a social hub. OA-STUDIO’s design responds with light architectural gestures: auxiliary spaces are reprogrammed, furniture and openings are carefully added, and the existing circulation is amplified. The apartment’s circular flow is intensified by converting windows into balcony doors, allowing access to each room both internally and via the terrace. The entrance and kitchen merge into a central gathering zone. A former blind bathroom becomes a bright office, the laundry gains skylights, and the maid’s room transforms into an ensuite. New elements are conceived as autonomous and adaptable—reversible insertions that can evolve or disappear entirely. In this way, OA-STUDIO suggests a simple but powerful idea: a home that respects its past while staying open to change.
