Architect Gelly Dimitrakopoulou has renovated a traditional building in the seaside village of Batsi, Andros, creating Pomelo, a contemporary meze restaurant that balances local heritage with modern design. The intervention preserves the building’s architectural clarity and original materials, while introducing new tones, textures and spatial flow. Inside, plaster walls in earthy shades are paired with deep-green wooden frames and terrazzo-textured floors. Fabric details in terracotta and green, alongside hand-blown glass light fixtures, add warmth and tactile variation. A ceramic-clad bar defines the interior, with pink and terracotta tiles across its façade and a pale terrazzo counter above. Open shelving and suspended green pendants structure the space into a calm, rhythmic composition. Outdoors, the restaurant extends into the alley under strings of lights, with green and ivory metal furniture subtly echoing the indoor palette.
