Videozoom Greece aims at showcasing Greece’s contemporary video art in an exhibition held at the Museo di Roma in Trastevere between 14 November and 15 December 2014. The ongoing financial crisis in Greece has significantly affected society, as people are forced to confront turbulent transformations in the midst of their evergrowing needs. At the same time, being the center of a constant and radical transformation leads to a deep sense of stagnation and uncertainty. Surprisingly, the world continues to move at the same rapid pace, as time becomes more and more relevant, and its borders less clearly defined; the ability to plan long-term weakens and there are no reference points that can be taken for granted.
As stated by the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, the primary phenomenon of time is the future that is revealed to man in his being-towards-death. When the present is so uncertain, how are the meaning and significance of the time affected? Artists Loukia Alavanou & Cecilia Jardemar, Bill Balaskas, George Drivas, Vasilis Patmios Karouk, The Spiritual Studio and Lina Theodorou record the changes in their everyday realities and reflect their personal thoughts on the search for such a meaning in this crucial period for their country.
