Unique Greek Summer Stays for 2025

Unique Greek Island Stays 2025

Greece has long captivated those seeking more than just a beautiful backdrop. Here, intimate and refined stays offer a chance to experience the country in a way that feels both personal and distinctive. Whether tucked away in the quiet corners of well-known islands or hidden on lesser-explored shores, these retreats blend contemporary design with the timeless charm of Greek life. From minimalist hideaways to chic, personalized escapes, these properties provide a sophisticated alternative to the usual, offering a special experience for those seeking something beyond the ordinary. For those in search of a true sense of place, these boutique stays offer a rare opportunity to discover Greece in its most intimate and enchanting form.

Anise & Ouzo, Naxos

Tucked within a lush oasis that flows from the street to the sea, Anise & Ouzo is a refined take on Cycladic simplicity. This pair of cubic, minimalist houses blends with its surroundings, where earthy tones of green, white, and brown create a sense of calm. Originally built three decades ago, the property was reimagined by Michaela de Wagt, Jan Andres, and Remo Masala, who sought to amplify space while preserving its tranquil essence. “We wanted to create an oasis, a place where simplicity meets generosity,” explains de Wagt. Expansive terraces extend the interiors, dissolving the boundary between inside and out, while hidden windows and wide openings welcome the Meltemi breeze, offering a natural, eco-conscious cooling system. Every detail, from the handcrafted furniture to the seamless indoor-outdoor flow, reflects a thoughtful approach to slow living. Overlooking Paros, with golden sunsets washing over the horizon, this retreat is a quiet celebration of island life at its most authentic.

Kea Retreat, Kea

Set amid Kea’s rolling hills, where olive groves and vineyards give way to the quiet shores of Psathi Beach, Kea Retreat is an immersive escape rooted in nature, tradition, and mindful living. Transformed from a cluster of 400-year-old stone farmhouses known as kathikies, the retreat feels like an organic extension of the land, offering a refined yet understated sanctuary. Austere yet warm, the guest rooms open onto sea-view verandas and outdoor showers, with a muted palette and handcrafted furnishings reflecting the island’s earthy soul. More than a stay, Kea Retreat is a holistic experience—week-long programs weave together yoga, meditation, dance, and nature-led excursions, all underpinned by a deep respect for sustainability and slow living. The retreat is a family affair, founded by restaurateur Zviki Eshet and his wife Anat, whose lifelong connection to Greek culture shaped the project. Their son Yoni oversees daily operations and meditation sessions, while Uriel, a Michelin-trained chef, crafts a farm-to-table menu inspired by the estate’s own olive groves, orchards, and gardens. With every meal, movement, and moment attuned to the island’s rhythm, Kea Retreat is a celebration of simplicity, offering a rare chance to disconnect, recharge, and rediscover balance in one of the Cyclades’ most unspoiled corners.

Aristide Hotel, Syros

Nestled in the heart of Hermoupolis, Aristide Hotel offers a unique blend of heritage, art, and sustainability. Set within a restored neoclassical mansion—one of the last of its kind in Greece—the hotel preserves the original architectural beauty of the building, from its generous spaces to the intricate details. With nine thoughtfully designed rooms, a lush garden, and a rooftop bar overlooking the sea, it radiates the warmth and elegance of a private home rather than a traditional hotel. Created by a nomadic family of three, who moved to Sweden as refugees, Aristide is named in honor of their late Greek grandfather. The family’s design ethos is rooted in authenticity, with local materials—particularly Greek marble—playing a central role in the hotel’s aesthetic. Guests will find marble from nine regions throughout the property, while contemporary furnishings and bespoke pieces add a modern touch. The hotel is also a haven for art lovers, featuring a permanent collection of figurative and portraiture works from artists such as Christy Lee Rogers and Igor Skaletsky, as well as a dedicated gallery space for rotating exhibitions. With a focus on sustainability, Aristide offers eco-friendly amenities, from bamboo toothbrushes to biodegradable slippers, and even hosts a tree-planting initiative to offset the carbon footprint of its guests. The family’s personal touch and commitment to local culture give the hotel a distinct sense of place, making it a true home away from home.

Dexamenes Seaside Hotel, Peloponnese

Nestled along the serene coast of the Western Peloponnese, Dexamenes invites guests into a space where history meets modern design. Originally built in the 1920s as a wine storage facility, the property served as a key part of Greece’s “Era of Currants,” when wine was exported directly from the site’s tanks to ships bound for international markets. Today, the 100-year-old structures have been thoughtfully transformed into a contemporary design hotel, preserving their industrial charm while introducing sleek, minimalistic elements. The design, led by hotelier Nikos Karaflos and architectural firm K-Studio, maintains the integrity of the original concrete tanks, now reimagined as light-filled guest rooms, each offering stunning sea views and private patios. The spacious central courtyard, with its reflective pool and preserved steel drums, serves as a peaceful retreat. Guests can step onto a raised promenade to access the beach or relax in the hotel’s cultural spaces, which celebrate the local heritage. Dining is focused on local, sustainable ingredients, and the cultural center hosts a range of artistic events throughout the summer, offering a vibrant connection to the area’s traditions. Dexamenes is a striking example of how a historic site can be rejuvenated into a sophisticated sanctuary that honours its roots while providing modern comforts.

Each space offers a private pool, while select accommodations feature jacuzzis, creating a tranquil haven. Inspired by the island’s summer palette, interiors combine creamy hues, soft whites, and rich chocolate browns, accented by warm terracotta tones. The name, derived from the Greek word Βάρδος (Bardos), meaning poet or singer, reflects the owners’ deep connection to music. Local craftsmanship takes center stage, with custom-made bathroom sinks carved from traditional marble, adding an authentic Cycladic touch. Guests can indulge in Mediterranean flavors at the on-site restaurant or take in panoramic views of Agios Sostis beach, where golden sunsets paint the horizon. Bard de Sol offers an inviting retreat where elegance meets island charm.
