Opening windows connect fresh Ugly Rolls pastry shop with the streets of Glyfada

Following the opening of its first location, Ugly Rolls has expanded to the Athenian suburb of Glyfada with a second compact pastry shop designed by Georgios Apostolopoulos Architects. Conceived as a small-scale intervention, the project gives a modest storefront a distinct presence while bringing the brand’s familiar character into a new setting. A metal-framed glass façade opens the shop towards the street, while a striped awning introduces a simple graphic element above. Two vertically opening service windows extend the counter towards the pavement, allowing coffee and cinnamon rolls to be handed directly to passers-by and making the street an active part of the shop. Inside, the compact plan is organized around two linear preparation counters, with the main working functions pushed to the perimeter to make the most of the limited footprint. Stainless steel is paired with timber joinery and the brand’s signature colors, balancing the practical requirements of a working bakery with a warmer, more playful atmosphere. The space unfolds between two connected zones. The front is dedicated to serving customers both inside and through the open windows, while the production area at the back remains visible, turning the preparation of the cinnamon rolls into part of the experience. The design uses its small scale to create a more immediate relationship with the neighborhood. Open windows, visible production and a straightforward material palette come together in a space that feels efficient and informal, giving Ugly Rolls a recognizable new address in Glyfada.
