Yiannis Ghikas designed the Mutant vase inspired by the special effects used in science fiction movies to show movement under a personโs skin. Similar to the way that foreign organisms or a parasites appear to move underneath it, altering its smooth surface, the vaseโs ridges increase in depth towards the center, creating an impression of it being stretched from within. Yet, as the vase turns, the ridges disappear again, just like the artificial metallic blades appearing gradually from Woolverineโs human hands vanish, leaving its hands intact. Itโs a discreet โmutationโ that has been incorporated in this 3D-printed vase, to gradually disturb aesthetically its smooth surface.
