A restaurant with a name like Happy Sardines deserves an entrance with a little personality. Designed by Supersize Studio in Thessaloniki, the space takes its cues from the neighborhood’s past, beginning with a bold illuminated sign reminiscent of old cinema marquees.

The reference brings a touch of nostalgia to an otherwise contemporary setting, where deep-red metal frames meet glass and neutral surfaces. Inside, the design is deliberately simple, with clean lines and a restrained selection of materials allowing the kitchen to take centre stage. The contrast between the industrial finishes and the warmer details gives the restaurant an easy, welcoming feel.

Much of its character, however, comes from the way it opens towards the street. Tables and chairs gather along the threshold, blurring the boundary between the dining room and the neighbourhood outside, while the everyday movement of people becomes part of the atmosphere.

Designed by architect Vassilis Elenas, with graphics and signage by Fotis Pardalis, Happy Sardines brings together familiar references and contemporary details in a setting that feels connected to the life of the city around it.
