1,6 sqm of Life: a Desk Convertible to Bed by Studio NL

The main design purpose of this project was to comment on the fact that today, more often than ever, people’s lives appear to be ‘shrinking’ in order to fit in the confined space of an office. This desk could have varying uses, depending on the social context and culture; it could be used for an everyday siesta in relaxed working environments or even provide a few hours of sleep at night between deadlines. The project was named after the dimensions of the prototype (2,00 meters long and 0,80 meter wide =1,6 sqm of Life), made of metal, lacquered and solid wood, and white leather.

1,6 sqm of Life won the Silver A’ Design Award 2011.
