Carved quietly into the descending landscape of Tria Lagadia on the Cycladic Island of Syros, Olen Syros approaches hospitality with a subtle architectural touch. Designed by the Athens-based studio ATENO, the small design hotel is built directly into the natural slope of the cliff, allowing the terrain to guide its form. Much of the structure sits beneath the rock, with only a series of clean, low volumes emerging along the hillside, giving the impression that the building has always belonged to the landscape. The property comprises just seven suites, each conceived as a private, self-contained space oriented towards uninterrupted views of the Aegean. Here, outdoor living takes center stage: terraces, pools and open-air sitting areas extend the interiors outward so that the boundary between inside and outside almost disappears. ATENO’s restrained architectural language -defined by simple geometry and natural materials- allows light, sea and horizon to shape the atmosphere. Moving through the hotel is a gradual experience of framed views, shaded passages and sudden openness to the sea. The result is an intimate, residential-scale retreat where architecture quietly steps back, leaving space for the slower rhythms of island life to take over.
