A century after it first opened in 1925, Modiano Market is entering a new chapter in the life of Thessaloniki. For generations, the covered market was part of the everyday rhythm of the city center, bringing together food, trade and people from different neighborhoods beneath one roof. Now, under the management of Ergon Foods, with the new concept designed and curated by Ergon Atelier, the historic building returns as the Thessaloniki Central Market, with 29 spaces gathered around food, drink and daily life. There are bakeries and cafés, restaurants and bars, fresh produce and dairy, flowers, local products and objects to take home, with communal tables encouraging people to stop rather than simply pass through. The mix is deliberately broad, taking the market from morning coffee to an evening drink and giving people different reasons to return throughout the day. Behind the new programme is a familiar idea. A market works best when it belongs to the everyday life of its city. After 100 years of arrivals, departures and change, Modiano is once again becoming a place to meet, eat, shop and spend time in the center of Thessaloniki.
