The Bellies (Les Ventres) is a stunning, science-fiction satire on the industrialized world and current affairs at a global level. It’s set in a bizarre universe, starting off with a scene of a group of overweight, upper-class businessmen enjoying identical meals. Along the way, a businessman genetically modifies the DNA of snails in order to create a race immensely higher and to tempt the voracious appetite of an ever more demanding system. The film is a science-fiction nightmare with graphic yet wonderfully elaborated scenes. Philippe Grammaticopoulos lives in Paris and publishes comic strips, children books and drawings for newspapers and magazines.
