Design studio M35 has completed the visual identity for Olympus, a Sydney-based restaurant that draws on the atmosphere of the traditional Greek taverna while presenting it through a contemporary design framework. The project references the visual culture of ancient Greece, incorporating sculptural forms and classical artefacts into a modern graphic system. Rather than using these elements literally, M35 abstracts them into bold cut-out shapes, introducing a sense of informality and warmth that offsets the precision of the typography. Central to the identity is the use of the circle, a motif taken directly from the restaurant’s architecture and spatial organization. Repeated across applications, it functions as a unifying device, bringing structure and continuity to the brand. A restrained blue color palette, inspired by the Greek coastline, further anchors the identity to its cultural context. Together, the elements form a brand system that balances heritage and contemporary design, offering a familiar reference to Greek tradition while avoiding nostalgia.
