Residence in Voula by Takis Exarhopoulos & Associated Architects

This residence in Voula, Athens designed by Takis Exarhopoulos & Associated Architects stands out for its almost triangular building plan, with its acute angle pointing to the junction of two streets, reminiscent of a ship’s bow. The design was followed in order for the construction to meet building regulations on a distinct plot of land that has the shape of an irregular pentagon, with a difference in height between its edges of approximately 9m.

The building layout has also been arranged to resemble the levels of a vessel. The main entrance is from the upper street, with access over a bridge to level 3, where the living room, dining room and kitchen are located.

The bedrooms and their auxiliary spaces are one level below, while the swimming pool is on level 1. The secondary entrance and garage (level 0) are located on the lower street. All spaces are topped by an office space (level 4) surrounded by a roof deck, which offers a panoramic view to the sea and city landscape. Overall, integrated in the rocky slope, the building conveys the impression of a stranded ship.
