Mazi Paros is a minimalist villa designed around a slower pace of everyday life

Outdoor terrace with wooden pergola casting shadows at Mazi villa in Paros

Mazi Paros is tucked along a narrow, greenery-lined street in the seaside village of Aliki. Designed by Cristina and Vadim Ghiorghiu in collaboration with Vivi Karountzou, the villa offers a calm, contemporary take on Cycladic architecture that feels both familiar and personal. At first glance, its white volumes sit comfortably within the rhythm of the village. Nothing feels imposed. Instead, the house seems to have settled naturally into its surroundings, echoing the scale and simplicity of nearby homes while introducing a more refined, modern sensibility. What sets the project apart is the level of care behind it. The architects were closely involved in shaping almost every detail, from the wooden pergolas and built-in furniture to the artwork and garden. Much of it was created or assembled with the help of friends and family, giving the house a sense of warmth that goes beyond design. Inside, spaces unfold gently towards the sea. Large openings blur the line between indoors and outdoors, allowing light and air to move freely through the house. Throughout the day, sunlight shifts across plastered walls and oak surfaces, creating a quiet play of shadows. The pergolas, carefully positioned, offer moments of shade and pause – places to sit, gather or simply slow down. Material choices are understated but thoughtful. Marble, deeply connected to Paros’ history, appears in subtle ways such as custom tables and small details. Paired with wood and soft plaster, it creates an atmosphere that feels grounded. Mazi is defined by how it feels to inhabit. It’s a house shaped by light, everyday routines, and a clear intention to keep things simple.
