Isola Studio restores Cycladic house with rooftop pool in Paros

Overlooking the hills of Naousa in Paros, Isola Studio has reimagined an existing Cycladic house through a renovation that places craftsmanship and materiality at the centre of the design. The project preserves the character of the original home while introducing a series of architectural interventions that strengthen its relationship with both the landscape and everyday life. The most significant addition is a rooftop plunge pool, made possible through the reinforcement of the existing structure. Without altering the house’s familiar silhouette, the roof has been transformed into a sequence of terraces for dining, relaxing and taking in panoramic views across the island. The exterior stays true to the language of Cycladic architecture. Hand-finished plaster, traditional timber windows and pale blue shutters are complemented by local stone walls, native planting and built-in seating, creating outdoor spaces that feel closely connected to the site’s natural topography. Inside, the design is defined by a restrained palette of tactile materials. Textured plaster walls, terracotta floors and walnut joinery establish a sense of warmth and continuity throughout the house. Beneath a barrel-vaulted arch, the kitchen combines sculpted plaster surfaces with bespoke timber cabinetry, allowing architecture and furniture to read as a single composition. Regional stone becomes the defining feature of the bathrooms, where red travertine, Tinos marble and Naxos marble have been carefully selected for bespoke vanities that celebrate the craftsmanship and material traditions of the Cyclades. Throughout the interiors, custom joinery and carefully chosen furnishings reinforce the home’s understated character. The renovation is more about revealing the house’s potential. Every detail contributes to a home that feels carefully assembled over time, where contemporary additions sit naturally alongside the original architecture.
