metamatic:taf is excited to present for fifth consecutive year the exhibition Studios 2014, which opens on Thursday 18 December 2014 and will run until 15 January 2015.
The exhibition is an institution for metamatic:taf aspiring to convey to the audience the trends that are currently being formulated at the Athens School of Fine Arts, by hosting a collection of works created by recent graduates. This exhibition attempts to deliver a cohesive impression of the artists’ conceptual and practical explorations during their studies. The artworks presented constitute part of the artists’ theses and their selection has been based mainly on two criteria: firstly, on their conscious disposition to incorporate into their work the scientific approach as artistic practice and, secondly, on their particularly imaginative use of material means with manifest symbolic dimensions.
Starting off with personal experiences, a thought burst or from an observational standpoint, the participants proceed to an investigative process where they grapple with ambivalences and semantic dualities, experiment with the characteristics and forms of materials and construct a new condition for dealing with reality, aspects of which we often tend to oversee. Balancing at times between a playful, humorous hint and a sharp comment or choosing a more poetic narrative, the artists through their works meet each other in an open discourse.
