Entos Stoas by Natassa Pappa is an attempt to map the exits of the stoas (gallery walkways) located in the commercial triangle of Athens, a chaotic district ideal for inquisitive strolls. The project uses as starting points the exit signs on some of the remaining passage entrances, which reveal an alternative walking network away from traffic, a surreal detail often overlooked.
The guide โInto Stoas โ Athens Walkthroughโ (Paperkingdom editions) provides a set of 8 postcards, mapping the exits in four different indexical ways, in order to provide the user with the necessary tools to access the cityโs bounty. Avoiding clichรฉs and prefabricated images, it also leaves plenty of white space in every spread, to be filled with the explorerโs walkthrough notations.
The guide initiated a series of creative collaborations, with more yet to come. First, โA Future Perfectโ design studio created a set of concrete coasters (โInto Stoas – Indexโ), followed by a short video entitled โPassageโ, a collaboration between artist Theo Prodromidis and photographer Peter Nikoltsos. For the productsโ launch, Fixers printed all the walkways in 3d, forming a unique puzzle.
